Background and Identification

Kenmore Washing Machines is a household appliances brand, which is owned by the American company Transform Holdco. They sell most of their appliances at Sears, Kmart and Amazon. They are produced by several companies including Whirlpool, LG, Electrolux, Panasonic, Cleva North America and Daewoo Electronics.

Originally, the Kenmore brand washing machines were introduced by Whirlpool in 1947. They were an automatic spinner-type washing machine. Whirlpool continues to make Kenmore brand washers for Sears.

The Whirlpool Kenmore top-load machines had some specific features they created. One was called the “wig wag” mechanism. It was used for years until more modern features replaced it. The mechanism is an oscillating piece mounted next to two solenoids. They engage agitation or spin and the motor operates continuously. It was a reliable feature. Another feature was a mechanical fuse that breaks in overly loaded machines so the motor doesn’t break or get damaged.

Kenmore has an upmarket line called the Elite line as well as a professional line of washers called Kenmore Pro.

Good Housekeeping rated the Kenmore Elite Top-Load Washer with Steam and Acela Wash the best value washing machine of 2020 in a May 2020 article.
