The Oblo is part of the first series of the Nescafé Dolce Gusto, an espresso machine/coffee capsule system from Nestlé, manufactured by Krups. It's easily recognized by its round shape and its hot/cold manual toggle stick. This device is also known as Oblo KP110.

The machine switches off when starting

The heating element works. The pump works fine with cold water, but when I switch over to hot, the whole machine shuts down after about 1 second. I have tried descaling, although not easy to do with so short pump bursts. Any ideas?

My idea: because the fault appears when heating, the heater has a electrical short. Open the machine and find the heater. You can measure its resistance, it should be around 40 Ohms for a 230 V machine. If not, replace it.

Another possibility: the issue is a broken capacitor on the motherboard, find the motherboard. The capacitor should look like these e.g. in Nespressos. Replace it, (or both, If there are more) hopefully this will do the trick.

Thanks VauWeh, it was the capacitors. I changed them a couple of years ago, but the symptoms then were different (must have been the other one, there are two) so I didn't think that was the problem. Anyway - it works - hurray!
