Chromebook 3110 does not charge while plugged in.

The Chromebook 3110 may not be charging correctly due to an error in the motherboard. Charge the Chromebook for approximately 25 minutes while it is powered off, then you attempt to reset the EC (Embedded Controller) by holding down the Power button (located on the side of the machine), the Round Arrow (top row of keyboard, fourth from the left) and the Escape key for three seconds. If the system boots to an "! OS missing" error, press and hold the Round Arrow and Power buttons to reboot the device.

First, check to ensure that your charger is correctly plugged into both the wall and the device. If these connections are sound, proceed to Faulty Battery below to help isolate the problem. If the battery is not the issue, your charger is faulty and needs to be replaced.

Remove the backplate from the Chromebook 3110 using a #00 Phillips screwdriver for all the screws. Then unscrew and remove the battery from the Chromebook, and leave it unplugged for 10-15 minutes. Once that is done, plug the battery back in, reattach all the screws, and attempt to power on the device. If this fails, your battery may be faulty and in need of replacement.

When you are working on something like a paper or a project, and you have several tabs open, one of the things you might notice is that the tabs you have open are working slower. This is because the more tabs open, the more the wifi has to be shared between the tabs.

To fix the problem, close each of the tabs once you are done with them. You can also see if you have any programs that are running in the background.

Programs, games, and other applications take up large amounts of space on the hard drive, and with the 32GB of space available, having any amount of applications can slow down the Chromebook. Some applications are constantly running in the background, and those will be taking up battery power as well as bands of wifi.

To fix the problem, go in and see if you have any unused applications. If you do, remove them to free up space on the drive. If you have any open applications that you are not using, close them properly and make sure they are not taking up any background wifi or information.

Chromebook 3110 files not saving locally or becoming corrupted on device.

When you are trying to download a file, the size of the file can often pose problems. One of which being, there is not enough wifi to download the file onto the device.

If this is the problem, one of the ways to fix it is to check your wifi settings and reset them. Try disconnecting and then reconnecting to the wifi.

Keeping in mind that the Chromebook does not have a lot of space, downloading files onto the drive might not work.

Look at what files are already on the device, and see if you can delete any of the extra ones you aren’t using. You can also see if you have any programs you aren’t using. One of the ways to make space on any device is to remove unused applications.

Chromebook 3110 freezes or shuts off entirely during use.

Crashing that occurs on the Chromebook 3110 could occur due to the operating software (ChromeOS) being outdated or corrupted. Try following Google's instructions on Updating your Chromebook's operating system first for updating the operating software, and then if necessary, Resetting your Chromebook.

The system may freeze or shut off as a result of low battery; try plugging in the Chromebook and restarting the device. If the battery was recently charged, or this continues to occur while plugged in, please refer to either Chromebook 3110 will not charge above, or System overheating below.

The Chromebook 3110 has automatic safeguards in place to prevent damage to hardware components and danger to the user. Using a #00 Phillips screwdriver bit, unscrew all screws from the back plate of the Chromebook. For your convenience, the arrangement of these screws is pictured below.

Overheating can be caused by a variety of factors, the most common of which is an accumulation of dust. If clumps of dust are present, try to remove them carefully with tweezers or a compressed air canister. If no dust is present, carefully examine the battery for faults. If any of the battery's cells are inflated, unscrew the assembly using the same #00 Phillips screwdriver bit, unplug the routing cables (pictured below), remove and safely discard the battery and purchase a replacement.
