Background

The iRobot Roomba J7 Plus is a robot vacuum released in September 2021. It features a refined cleaning system and a camera-based PrecisionVision Navigation system for recognizing and avoiding obstacles. Compared with the regular J7, the main difference is the Clean Base auto-empty dock. The Clean Base automatically empties the robot’s 250 mL dustbin into a 2.6 L disposable bag. The later Roomba Combo J7 Plus added mopping abilities.

The J7 Plus was made for people who want to keep their floors clean with less daily effort, especially pet owners or people with busy homes. It could identify and avoid hazards like charging cords and pet waste, which was one of its most notable features. The J7 Plus originally sold for about $849, while the regular J7 sold for about $649.

Reviews often praised the obstacle avoidance, home mapping, and convenience of the self-emptying dock. However, its suction can be below average compared with other premium robot vacuums, especially with fine debris and pet hair in carpet. The battery life and the cost of replacement bags, filters, and brushes were also common drawbacks.

Identification

The Roomba J7 Plus is a round, graphite-colored robot vacuum that is about 13.3 inches wide and 3.4 inches tall. It has a single Clean button on top, a front-facing camera for obstacle avoidance, and two rubber brushes underneath. The J7 and J7 Plus robots look the same. The J7 Plus is identified by the included Clean Base auto-empty dock. Do not confuse it with the Combo J7 Plus, which has a mop pad and water tank.

To find the identification label, remove the dustbin and turn the robot over. The serial number and product label are in the exposed bin area on the underside. The robot is listed as regulatory model RVE-Y1; the Clean Base dock is ADG-N2.
