Greg, what year is your Sierra? 12 years is a long span and design changes can easily affect how the bulb is replaced. This is the passenger side bulb, is that right? What's the trim level of your rig; that could also affect how you change the bulb.

Yes — passenger side, and one thing first, because it changes the bulb you buy:

the trim and headlight package on these trucks matters. A base halogen setup and an upgraded setup don't take the same bulb, so don't buy by the truck alone. The reliable way is to pull the old bulb first and match the code printed on its base (or check your owner's manual) — that code is the one to buy.

The job itself, in order:

1. Lights off, engine off, and let the bulb cool down. Headlight bulbs run hot and the glass is fragile when it's warm.

2. Open the hood and find the back of the passenger-side headlight assembly. You're looking for the round dust cover or the connector sitting right behind the bulb.

3. Unplug the electrical connector from the back of the bulb. If it's tight, wiggle it straight off — don't yank the wires.

4. Release the bulb. On most of these it's a twist-lock or a wire retainer clip: twist counterclockwise or unhook the clip, and the bulb comes straight out. Don't force it — if it won't turn, you're turning the wrong part.

5. Hold the new bulb by its base only. Touching the glass leaves skin oil on it, and that shortens its life fast.

6. Seat the new bulb the same way the old one came out — it only fits one way round — lock the retainer back, plug the connector in, and test the light before you close everything up.

Two things that save a second trip: if the old bulb's printing is worn off, take it with you to the parts store and match it in hand. And if you get in there and find the assembly is the sealed/upgraded type with no serviceable bulb, or the connector looks melted or corroded, stop there — that's a different fix than a bulb swap.

Fitment note: a replacement bulb commonly fits your Sierra, but always confirm against your vehicle's exact trim and engine and the product's fitment data before buying — trim is the deciding detail here. If unsure, consult a professional mechanic.
