need new air filter- check for dusty, grimy filter, replace as needed
throttle cable stretched too much and not pulling throttle enough - that red bar you hold down adjusts the throttle, sometimes the cable gets stretched too much, now hold down the bar like you are going to start it, pull on the cable, the metal part, give it a few hard tugs and try to crank it now. if it cranks and tries to die, then push down on the mower handle to make the front of the mower lift off the ground. now put the mower back flat again, does it stay cranked, probably the stretched cable. you can keep doing this procedure until you feel like replacing the cable.
