Repair information for Asus K Series laptops.

Keyboard repeating multiple strokes or 0 strokes

I have an ASUS K571GT and I've noticed in the past 2 months, certain keyboard buttons are working whenever they want.

Pushing the 1 button: Tapping it once will either produce nothing, or 111 in a row. Right Shift + 1 sometimes produces a !, sometimes it doesn't.

Pushing the q button: Will produce 5 qqqqq in a row. Right Shift + q sometimes produces a capital Q, sometimes it doesn't.

Pushing the Tab button: Does the same thing. Tap it once and its as if I hit the tab button 3-5 times.

I popped up the 3 buttons, cleaned them, air dusted there to take out any debris. I pushed the buttons and it all worked, perfect!
Popped them all back on. Worked for 5min before they stopped working.

Anybody know what's wrong? Or have any solutions?

Hi @djkomic

Has any liquids been spilled on to the keyboard at all?

Check if customizing the Filter keys settings stops the problem from occurring.

Press the Win key + i key (both keys together) to get to Settings and then select (for Win10) Ease of Access > Keyboard > Use Filter keys (or for Win11 Accessibility > Interaction > Keyboard > Filter keys).

If still no good try connecting a USB keyboard to the laptop and check if the problem occurs when using it.

If it doesn't then it may be a faulty keyboard in the laptop.

Here's a video that shows how to replace the keyboard in a Vivobook laptop that may help.

Search online for Asus K571GT keyboard to find suppliers that suit you best. (examples) Since it seems that there are backlit and non backlit keyboards available, try looking for the Asus part number somewhere on the back of the keyboard in your laptop. If there is one, try searching online for Asus (insert part number) to get the correct part for your model.

Hey Jayeff.

Q: Has any liquids been spilled on to the keyboard at all?

A: Nope

Q: Check if customizing the Filter keys settings stops the problem from occurring.

Press the Win key + i key (both keys together) to get to Settings and then select (for Win10) Ease of Access > Keyboard > Use Filter keys (or for Win11 Accessibility > Interaction > Keyboard > Filter keys).

A: All are disabled, sticky keys and filter keys

Q: If still no good try connecting a USB keyboard to the laptop and check if the problem occurs when using it.

A: Already looking online for a USB replacement.

Q: Here's a video that shows how to replace the keyboard in a Vivobook laptop that may help.

A: I found the keyboard online for $60. But the skillset to replace it, is wayyy beyond my expertise.

I called a Tech guy and he said it's $275 to replace it, cause the motherboard is glued to the front case.

And the place I could order it from said I'd need a soldering gun, a heat gun, and etc

Yeahhh, that's beyond what I can do
