Multiple power presses to turn on

My PlayStation 4 slim has developed an issue within the last year. Every once in a while, could be a couple days, could be right after turning the system off and turning it back on, even could be a month from now, I will either press the power button on the console itself, or turn it on with the controller, then it does the normal beep, flashes blue, then turns off before even a TV signal. Also as a side note, I do not use the rest mode at all.

When this happens, trying to use the controller to turn on the PlayStation doesn't work anymore, so I have to hit the power button. Nothing happens on the second press, then on the third press It will turn on like nothing ever happened, no error message or anything. I have stress tested it playing demanding games for hours and have had no issues, so it seems once it's turned on it's okay.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Hi!

Since it happens both with the controller and power button, it’s having a hard time to wake up.

What happens when it’s in rest mode and you try to turn it on?

Anyway, it’s hard to say what it can be as you try it different ways..

Is the PS4 up to date? I would try to reset it and see if that works. Could be a software thing. I don’t think it’s the hard drive or PSU, as it does work fine when it’s fully turned on.

I would start with a reset (make sure that you make a backup first).

Thanks!

Rest mode works, but I don't regularly use it.

Okay, in this case it does sound a software thing. How is the time when you fully plug it from the power? Still showing everything as correctly? It could be simply the BIOS battery causing issues, but is not very likely... Replacing it, requires to get the motherboard out. Otherwise you could try the reset thing. Thanks!

I recently reset it already because I had another issue where I couldn't get new trophies on my profile

Okay, in that case you could try a new CMOS battery and see how that goes. It could give weird issues when empty. Please let me know if you need a guide :)!
