Given the systems age you likely need a new battery. Here's the needed part with the tools if you need them MacBook Pro 13" Unibody (Mid 2009-Mid 2012) Battery and here's the guide MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2009 Battery Replacement
Do deck the chargers MagSafe plug LED lights up if not fully clean the grey socket area and the contacts using isopropyl alcohol and cotton swab.
Do tell us if the LED IS NOT LIGHTING.
