BENQ W1070 Internal Cleaning

Coming from someone who has worked on the Epson models, all projectors are a pain. Your best bet here is to take the cover off and blow the fans out, and not mess with anything else like the lens/DMD element as that gets complicated - even I don't mess with that on the Epsons given how many schools throw good ones out that don't need major cleanings or 3LCD calibration. A lot of the time I can buy a whole new one and all they need is a lamp as it's nearing/over it's rated lifetime.

How I deal with it is this when I have one die but I have a low hour lamp: if I have a low hour one from the dead unit it's usually alive enough to grab the hours, note them, reset the "high hours" one and then add to the counter mentally (ex: if my new unit came from a school with 4,400 hours on a ELPLP96 (4,500 Normal/7,500 Eco) but a perfect optical block but I put a 800 hour ELPLP96/97 in the unit I will note the hours on the bulb as Normal or Eco, then add it - say I run that unit for big screen media or gaming, I will watch the hours and ALWAYS add the base hours -- such as this: 800 Normal, used lamp then if I put 500 hours on it I will add 800+500 and use that to get the actual runtime.

If you are careful you can take the heatsink off the DMD and repeaste that with something like PTM7950 and it will outlast the rest of the projector. Beyond cleaning the filters if you have them and fans, don't do a major teardown. The only time I'd do it is on one of the early 2000s and late 2000s units like the EX series which are the tail end of the line because Epson no longer makes OEM lamps and aren't nice enough that they are hard to find (if I can buy the lamp through Pureland Supply, no - Pureland supply stopped making it or it's too expensive? I'll risk it) where the lack of an OEM lamp supply beyond surplus is a problem. I'd never open a HC660 beyond the fans and filters - unlike the EX units, those Epson HCs aren't common enough to risk damaging permanently yet.
