If you are describing the engine light, it turns on automatically for engine emissions problems with one or more error codes stored in memory. A reader or scantool is needed, plugged into the OBDII port under the left side footwell area to retrieve and display them. Auto stores like Autozone provide free readings of engine light errors. Once error code(s) are displayed, write them down and determine which way to proceed.
