Information and repair instructions for Hotpoint Refrigerator

Have yet to find any board

Have yet to find any board

GE Fridge Hotpoint

Mod # PDS18SBMLBS

Freezer below fridge

There is no panel on the back to access a board. There is only a cardboard cover at the bottom back to see compressor and fan. I have removed the control panel top, back, inside of fridge and there is no board there. I have looked at the skimatic in the literature that came with the fridge and there is no mention of a control board. Did not see my model in your list of GE refrigerators. I have replaced thermostat in freezer and fridge, replaced defrost fan in freezer. Replaced timer behind temp controller in fridge.

Have I missed anything? Except control board that I can’t find? Help!

I got this from here - you can pick it up and ask more questions, but here is what you asked about

Yes, there is a control board in your GE refrigerator, but it may not look like the large "main control board" found in newer smart refrigerators. [1, 2, 3]

Instead of a centralized motherboard mounted on the back wall, your specific model relies on a user control/display board assembly located behind the temperature adjustment buttons inside the fresh food section. This board is paired alongside a mechanical defrost timer (Part #WR9X483) to manage the cooling and defrost cycles. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7]

If you are trying to find or fix it, keep these locations in mind:

  • The Interface Board: Located inside the top front panel of the refrigerator section, directly behind the temperature control buttons and touchpads. [1, 2]
  • The Defrost Timer: Mounted in the same housing control panel inside the fresh food section. It controls the timing of the cooling cycles. [1, 2, 3]

If you tell me what specific problem your refrigerator is having (e.g., clicking sounds, clicking but not starting, or lights working but no cold air), I can tell you if the control board or the defrost timer is the part likely causing the issue.

Hi @ruggb

Looking at the parts list for the model series from the following three suppliers, supplier 1, supplier 2, supplier 3, there's no control board in the model.

I realize that they all are using the same list but you'd think that the manufacturer (supplier 1) would be correct even if the other two weren't

It is controlled by the temperature control thermostat and the defrost timer.

This is confirmed by the wiring diagram for the model series - see p.4

Cheers

Hi @waynez

Looking at the wiring diagram on p.4 of the service manual, there is no control board per se in the refrigerator.

The refrigerator is controlled by the temperature control thermostat and the defrost timer located in the control panel.

Since you have replaced the timer and I assume the temperature control thermostat and if the compressor is not running, check if the compressor protector/start relay is OK (location is Units parts diagram - part ID 131 in the parts diagrams on the page)

Disconnect the power to the refrigerator and remove the relay and give it a gentle shake. If it rattles, replace it. Search online for WR07X10043¹ to find suppliers that suit you best. (examples)

¹ Some suppliers state that this is the part number for the relay whereas the service manual and other suppliers state that the part number is WR07X10031. Perhaps check if there's a part number somewhere on the relay itself to verify which one it actually is.

Hi @waynez,

Did you find the control board in the refrigerator?

if you did where was it located as this may help others with the same model, as there's no board shown in the parts list for the model.

If you didn't find it just wondering why you unaccepted my answer and accepted the Chosen Solution answer above?
