Removing icemaker from GE side-by-side refrigerator
If I remove the icemaker from my GE side-by-side refrigerator, what happens to the water that was being fed into it?
Is this a good question?

Hi @tlhall
What is the model number of the refrigerator?
Before removing the ice maker turn off the faucet that the hose that is supplying water to the refrigerator is connected to. Usually this is behind the refrigerator.
If the refrigerator also has a water dispenser, do you wish to keep that working, once the ice maker has been removed?
Why do you want to remove the ice maker? With a lot of refrigerator models you can simply turn the ice maker off, either on the ice maker or by using the control panel.

It's a L0908596.
So it sounds like the water would just spew out all over the place.
The little handle on the off "switch" broke off. I seldom used the icemaker, old fashioned ice cube trays are just fine, and it takes up valuable freezer space.
The water dispenser was handy, but it looks like the only way to have a water dispenser and no icemaker is to do something with the water valve assembly. That may be a future project, but I'll just use a Brita-type filter pitcher for now.

The water only comes out when the ice maker sends a signal to the control for it to be refilled after dumping ice.
No ice maker, no signal, no fill
Please confirm the model number of the refrigerator, as I can't find anything on the number you posted?
Check if the water inlet valve assembly is a dual valve assembly i.e. one valve for the ice maker and one for the water dispenser.
If it is then if you disconnect the cable plug from the ice valve then water can't pass through it as it can't operate.
Trouble is without a wiring diagram for the model (as I said, can't find the anything on the model number you posted -you didn't post the serial number by any chance instead?) it is trial and error which valve is the correct one.
