Is this enough thermal paste for my PS3?

Block Image

I opened my PS3 to replace the CMOS battery which involves exposing the processors. The guide I was using said to use a pea-size amount after cleaning the old paste off because the heatsink would spread it out. Is this enough to prevent major problems, or would spreading a thin layer or "X" shape have been better?

Model is CECHL03 (Fat) and thermal paste I used is Arctic MX4 if that changes anything

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi!

Yup, should be enough.

You can also make a X shape with the paste, but this works too.

I always use personally the same amount as you did and then spread it over the whole chip.

Everyone got his own method for this :).

Please let us know how it goes!

@dan0 I didn't manually spread it over the chip as I thought it would do that itself when the clamps were tightened. Presumably that's still fine right?

Yes that is still fine :)! Should do the job!

Yes, that looks to be a perfect amount for PS3. It may not look like much now, but once you squish it up against the CPU it will be plenty.
