USB File Transfer and Debugging not working

Hey Everyone,

I thought my Pixel 3A had faulty USB-C port as except charging it does nothing else i.e File Transfer and USB Debugging.

I ordered and replaced the USB-C port last week successfully but the result is the same.

Anyone else faced the same issue ?

Thank you

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi @pbiswal

When you plug in a USB-C cable is there a notification on the phone stating "Charging this device via USB"?

If there is when you tap on the notification are there other options to select e.g. "Use USB for File Transfer"?

If there is and you tap on it and it still doesn't work, have you tried using a different known working USB-C cable?

On the Google Pixel 3a, if charging works but data doesn’t—even after replacing the USB-C port—it’s usually not the port itself. Check the USB mode in settings (set to File Transfer), try a different data-capable cable (many are charge-only), and test on another PC. Also clean the port gently for lint.

If still no detection, it could be a damaged USB controller IC or motherboard issue. Enable Developer Options → USB Debugging and see if it’s recognized. If nothing works, it likely needs board-level repair or professional service.

This didn’t work for me, all usb options are grayed out on my pixel 3a, as well as usb debugging not showing up. It can only charge

Usb debugging isn't usually turned on as standard.

To turn it on,

Go into settings and about phone.

Look for 'Build number'. If not there look under 'software'.

Tap and keep tapping on the words 'build number' until it says developer options enabled or similar.

Click back into the main settings menu and a new developer options folder should be there.

Click the new folder, scroll down to usb debugging and turn it on.

Then try it.
