Why is my boot not opening
boot is not opening
Is this a good question?
Take a look at the switch - is it on the door card or the bottom and it feels mechanical? If it's a switch on the door card, it's electronic like a lot of modern Hyundai/Kia platforms, the one on the floor with a real pull will be mechanical. I know on the Optimas they moved those electronic early on being it was made to compete with BMW and Mercedes in the 3 series or C/CLA class, where the switch for the trunk is electronic but it has a mechanical hood latch.
THERE IS A KNOWN RECALL: Look up 23V534 -- here's the letter from the NHTSA: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2023/RI...
If the switch is electronic, then you have a few things which you can quickly check. One of them is the fuses. Look for a fuse named DR LOCK - it's 20A. It will be in the driver side fuse box in most cases, but might be in the engine bay as well so check both. If you do not see this, you'll need to look up the diagram and find the one for the trunk latch.
Without the year I can't locate the parts easily, but the next things in line to check are the trunk actuator, external release switch (electronic only) or a wiring issue on electronic setups.
If it's mechanical and you don't feel it move, the trunk release latch is broken. If it's electronic and it's a switch on the door card without a analog cable, the switch or the electrical connection to the switch has an issue. Find us the year and I can see what I can do but Hyundai/Kia locked their manuals down good after RtR took off taking advantage of a loophole allowing it. 2015 and older seems to be properly leaked as I have them downloaded for the Optima and keep them close, but anything 2016+ isn't quite primed to leak yet - you may need to pay for access :-(.
