If your HP EliteBook 800 shows a black screen when powered on, it is usually caused by display, RAM, or BIOS issues.

First, try a hard reset. Turn off the laptop, disconnect the charger, remove the battery (if removable), hold the power button for 15–20 seconds, then reconnect power and turn it on. This can clear temporary hardware glitches.

Next, connect the laptop to an external monitor using HDMI or DisplayPort. If the external display works, the issue may be a faulty laptop screen or loose display cable.

You can also try reseating the RAM or booting with one RAM stick if the laptop has two. Faulty memory often causes a black screen at startup.

If none of these steps work, the problem may be related to the motherboard or BIOS.
