Repair guides, disassembly, and troubleshooting information for the 15-inch MacBook Air released in March 2025, with M4 chips.

Odd clicking sounds when rotating display

Starting last week I've noticed that whenever I rotate the display on my MacBook Air, clicking sounds would come from near the middle of the display. After opening up and tightening the screws on the logic board, clutch covers, display and lid angle sensor, the clicking sound still persists. I'm suspecting it's something with the display cable. I embeded a Youtube video demonstrating the issue. Any help would be appreciated!

Also another question is would tightening the screws void warranty if I'm in the US?

This is not a loose part type of issue, it's a slight distortion of the parts so when then past each other they rub. You are also pushing and pulling the display quite fast so that could be the source of the bending.

As it's so new you really want Apple to fix this so they take the risks. Not sure if they can do much here, just the same.

That could be, it also does happen when I rotate the screen slowly, like very slowly too. Rubbing would make sense, but that would make a continuous sound opposed to clicking. I did find that if I stuck paper in where the display cables are it silences the clicking, so I'm guessing from all the heat the cables warped into something like a measuring tape so when it's flexed it makes the popping noise.

I'll see what I can do with taking it to Apple, I'm not sure if they'll accept it under 1 year warranty since I did screw in a few screws and such. Should be covered under Magnossun-Moss Act though.

Thanks for the answer!! I really appreciate it!
