Removing Mold from the internal display frame

I live in quite a humid country and I encountered so many time a moldy inner frame from the A1278 models display. This part alone is not available as a separate piece or even worth to buy considering the overall value of these old MacBooks, anyway, damp is obviously a cause of mold, so cleaning one of these up to recycle is a bit of a challenge long term. What method would you recommend to use to get off the mold? I have been scratching off as much as I can and then sanding it down and then using some 99% ISP to finish it off before spray painting them black to give them some sort of 'protective' coating afterwards. @danj have you ever had to do this before? Interested in any suggestions. Thanks in advance!

A mild solution of bleach is about all I can think of using distilled water. Some bathroom tub cleaners offer stronger chemicals which will attack the heavier stains, wear proper PPE as they can splash burning you.
