New ifixit battery won't charge

I've just installed a new ifixit battery (from the "MacBook Pro 14" (A2442, A2779, A2918) Battery" ******kit). My macbook recognises it as a new battery because the health is 100%, compared to my last battery which was around 70%. After I first installed the battery and plugged it in, it immediately said it was at 62% battery and would not charge at all. I left it charging for two hours and shut it down for long periods of time, but nothing has worked so far.

Answer this question I have this problem too

There is a big issue of availability of the new battery in the market. Sometimes old stock or expired batteries are supplied by the seller. In such case one can try for return and exchange of the battery. A good new battery will charge quickly and work for a longer time.

I don't think the battery was bad in this case. This is a newer system it would be rare for the battery to be too old. Simply checking the data of manufacture can be seen within either the hardware report or via CoconutBattery which is my favorite tool to keep an eye on the battery from within macOS.

You really need to get ahold of a USB-C power meter to plug into the system and then have the power adapter plugged into, that way you can see what's happening. Often times it's the cable is not the correct USB-C cable or it's worn out, sometimes the USB-C port or the power logic within the system has an issue.

Here it's a bit tricky! It's likely the charging logic is having an issue as you did imply before the battery finally exhausted out you could see the batteries charge slowly going down.

That implies your system was not getting what it needed from the charger to top off the battery. Hence the battery is more likely good but the charging logic has failed.

Here's the tools I use to help test things:

If the charging logic is not working will require an IC to be replaced which might be better left to someone with deeper skills.
