Mitsubishi 82” DLP TV.

Blinking green status light then stops

Just turned on my tv and it’s just a blinking green status light and then the light stops blinking or illuminating, no image or sound is coming from the tv any idea on how to repair this?

Edit: here is a pic of the board at first I thought that was a blown hug capacitor but its glue for some odd reason, I did test the fuse at the bottom right it is still good, if you see anything I’m missing please let me know

@dmonkingxeno how many times does the light blink? does it blink fast or slow? something like this

Fast Blinking Green 1 to 3 minutes after Power

Restored from AC interrupt, Power On, System

Reset or Software update.

In all honesty I don’t know how many times it blinks as it just stays blinking green fast until it just stops blinking and no light is displayed at all and shuts off. The power button will not turn the tv back on I have to unplug and replug the tv into the power for it to start blinking again

How would I go about updating the software? I see there’s a usb port but where would I download the update?

I don’t see a button to do a system reset and the tv doesn’t display anything

@dmonkingxeno for a system reset you will need to press the <POWER> button on the front panel and hold it for 8 seconds.

Do you have the original remote? See if you have a Type 1 or type 2 remote. The Type 1 remote does not have buttons such as PLAY, FWD and RVW that are associated with operating connected devices.

Just posted a picture of the board and control and a small video. If you need me to tear it down more let me know, one thing I did notice is it was very dusty in the back when I opened it I cleaned it all out and hoped that would be it sure enough nope but I did try and power it on with the back off and it is sending the error code if I have the “door” open for the lamp. I did shut the door and it still give me the fast blinking green light and shuts down but I noticed no fans are booting up so that’s interesting as well

@dmonkingxeno Mitsubishi all but abandon their TV's. Firmware and parts are very difficult to come by. The green light you are describing seems to be the

  • Fast Blinking Green 1 to 3 minutes after Power Restored from AC interrupt, Power On, System Reset or Software update. This happens at boot up and as teh manuals describes it "Wait for blinking to stop to Power On."

Now, the blinking light on a WD-82740 can also be indicative of a power or DM (Digital Module) board failure. For that you would need to check the DM board and in particular, the capacitors. Those have had issues and failed for the Mitsubishi TV's pretty consistently. They wanted to save money and bought the cheapest once that were around :-)

If in doubt what you are looking for/at, post some good pictures of your boards with your Question. that way we can see what you see and hopefully we can help you to narrow things down Adding images to an existing question

If you are not quite comfortable with that, you can always try a firmware re-install. Here are the Software Update Instructions For WD 82740 The most difficult part with that, will be to find the firmware. You'd be looking for something like V45+ 12.07

Here are the Mitsubishi DLP PROJECTION HDTV Multiple Models TECHNICAL TRAINING MANUALand theMitsubishi DLP PROJECTION HDTV Multiple Models service manual that should come in handy for this repair.

Added pictures, any idea where I can get the software to try an update to see if that will give it a quick fix?

@dmonkingxeno let me check some of the other (older) forums and see if the firmware is even still in circulation. There has definitely not been any new firmware for years ;-)
