Two months ago, the power button started malfunctioning for a day or two until it finally stopped working altogether. At first it felt like it no longer did a click, like it got stuck.
Now, the volume up button has started having the same problem, so I can no longer connect the USB while holding down the volume up button in case the phone shuts down.

@agustingas86289 sounds like you have a bad Power / Volume Buttons Flex Cable. Since iFixit does not yet have a specific guide for that, use the one from here It is written in Spanish so use a browser that does the translating for you, if needed. A replacement flex cable can be readily obtained at many online stores.
While you work on your phone, take lots of pictures. Once you are done with it, take those pictures and create a guide for iFixit.
