Keeps refusing to turn back on normally

Try a full power refresh and check if that fixes it.

Turn off the laptop (if it is on) and disconnect the power from the laptop.

Open the laptop and remove the main battery from the laptop and disconnect and remove the RTC coin cell battery¹ from the motherboard.

Here's the maintenance and service guide that will help. Go to p.38 and p.59 in the manual to view the procedure to remove the main battery and the coin cell battery, respectively

Press and hold the laptop's Power On button for a full 30 seconds and then release it.

Reconnect the RTC coin cell battery, reinsert the main battery, reassemble the laptop, reconnect the charger to the laptop and check if it turns on OK etc.

If it does there may be a message stating that the Date and Time are incorrect. This is normal as the BIOS has been reset by the above procedure. Once the Date and Time have been corrected, the message won't appear the next time the laptop is started. Also, any user definable BIOS settings that were altered by you to suit whatever system requirements you needed, will have to be charged back again as well.

¹ When the coin cell battery is out, measure its voltage. If it is <2.5V DC or if the battery is >4-5 years old, replace it. Search online for L02772-001 to find suppliers that suit you best.
