A portable DVD player identified with the number DVP-FX980/FX97

Looking for laser adjustment screw

Usually dvd players have a screw inside that you can monkey around with to get your laser flowing better if the player isnt reading very good

@munion actually those "screws" are trimming potentiometers (trim pots) and their intentions is not so "that you can monkey around" but those are actually meant to calibrate circuit resistance to your laser. Monkeying around with those can A: burn out your laser or B: render your Laser useless. You have 2 pots so one is for CD and the other for DVD.

In order to calibrate you must use a multimeter and set that to Ohms. Set it to something like 20kΩ and connect it to the pot. Looks like your pot's only have two connectors. Measure the resistance across those contacts. Here is where it becomes experimental. We do not know what your laser potentiometer is set. Commonly a DVD pot should ready about 3.4kΩ>4.2kΩ (these values can be different to your laser) Write the value you've measured down, so you know what the original factory setting is. YOU MUST KNOW THE FACTORY VALUES BEFORE CONTINUING THE ADJUSTMENT.

Since you want to increase the voltage to you laser to increase readability, you will need to decrease the resistance on the pot. Never go less than 2.8kΩ since that will burn out your laser. Do the adjustment in steps of 100Ω at one time. That way you stay within safe parameters and keep your laser alive.

You can do the same for the CD pot if it is needed.

Despite what that guy said, i did monkey around with them and i did not use a multimeter because i dont have one. My dvd player works better and all i had to do was mark the potentiometers with a dot and turn a little at a time. For those who want to know, its the one on top (farthest from the ribbon cable) that you need to monkey around with to get your dvds working again
