The Dell Inspiron 16 Plus 7620 is a powerful 16-inch laptop equipped with Intel processors and a dedicated graphics card, designed for work, creativity, and everyday use.

Plastic frame peeled off of screen front

Somehow my laptop overheated (book was on top) and now the right side of the frame is bowed and peeled off. The hinges appear to be intact but opening and closing my laptop is not doable without fear that I will damage it further. I would like to do the repairs myself and any guidance would be very much appreciated.

We can look up repair information if we have the model number of your Dell. You should find it on a label on the bottom of the laptop; please edit your question to add that information and we'll see what we can find.

That front bezel is held on just with clips along the top and sides, but it has a strip of adhesive along the bottom edge.

This video shows how to replace the LCD rather than the complete display, and they do show how to remove that bezel. The part you're interested in starts at 22:44 into the video. Although they show the process with the display assembly already removed from the laptop, I don't think you have to actually take it off to remove (or in your case replace) the bezel.

If you get absolutely stuck and it just won't come off, you may have to start from the beginning of the video and remove the complete assembly, but I don't think you will.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

The bezel is probably fine but the adhesive gave out. The good thing is Dell doesn't really need it - you can clean it off and just snap it on and never replace it by running a guitar pick across the sides, using the loose side as leverage. The trick for the bottom strip is to use a guitar pick like the ones iFixit or guitar shops sell: iFixit Opening Picks (Set of 6). They are also in the EET, Pro Tech or Pro Tech Go if you need to get the kit locally. Just do not break that bezel or you get to buy a loose bezel from a used laptop, or the assembly: https://www.parts-people.com/index.php?a... (bezel only, out of stock: https://www.parts-people.com/index.php?a... ) -- Dell's supply chain has always been somewhat problematic for repair, but after RtR and the move to PCaaS, they opted to do the bare minimum to fix it and make even commodity parts like bezels available. I do see them on eBay for ~$44 with the part# 59W69, thankfully.

You can probably do it without disassembly but if it's like HP's hinge cover being fused since the G9/G10, you need to remove the LCD assembly. Here's the SM: https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-...
