Fire Wire ports not working

Check in Device Manager > 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller¹ > right click on entry > Properties > Power Management and check if the option to turn off the power to the device has been enabled.
If it has disable it, > OK then close all open windows and restart the desktop in the normal manner and check once it has restarted etc, that the firewire ports work OK
¹ If there's no 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller entry visible, check in Sound, Video and game controllers to see if it is listed there or select View > Show hidden devices.
