Your computer being stuck on the main screen (likely the desktop/home screen after login, where the mouse might move but nothing responds, or it's completely frozen) is a common issue often caused by software glitches, driver problems, or resource overload.

Firstly you can try a force restart and see if it recovers itself.

If it still gets stuck after restarting

  • Boot into Safe Mode (to isolate software issues):
  • Windows:
    • During startup, force restart 3 times (hold power button) to enter Automatic Repair.
    • Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart > Choose option 4 or 5 for Safe Mode.
    • Once in Safe Mode, run a virus scan, update drivers, or uninstall recent software.
  • Mac:
    • Hold the power button to shut down.
    • Turn on and immediately hold Shift key for Safe Boot.
    • Or hold Command + R for Recovery Mode to run Disk Utility and repair the disk.
  • Other checks:
  • Disconnect all external devices (USB drives, printers, etc.) and restart—peripherals can cause freezes.
  • If it's a laptop, remove the battery (if possible) for a minute, then reassemble and restart.
  • Wait it out sometimes (up to 30–60 minutes) if it's loading updates in the background.

If these don't work, it could be hardware-related (e.g., failing hard drive or RAM). In that case, consider running hardware diagnostics (press F12 or similar on boot for many brands) or seeking professional help. Let me know your OS (Windows/Mac) and more details (e.g., does the mouse move? Any error messages?) for more tailored advice!
