The fourth-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee was introduced in 2011. This model is also known as Jeep WK2.

Rear hatch door does not unlock

I have a 2011 jeep grand Cherokee limited. The rear hatch door does not unlock with the power locks. I have to manually unlock it with a screwdriver. Once its unlocked I can open and close the rear hatch door normally until I lock the doors again. I have replaced the locking mechanism.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi @ace5029

Don't know Jeeps but since you've replaced the lock mechanism, check the wiring/connections between the liftgate control module (located in left D pillar) and the door latch mechanism.

Looking at the wiring diagram (see below), in the liftgate door latch box (upper right side in diagram) there's a lgate cnch rel latch (cnch) connection on pin 4 and a lgate cnch rel ulatch (rel) connection on pin 1.

Presumably latch = lock and ulatch = unlock

Since the lock function works check the tan/white wire from the door latch pin 1 to the liftgate control module pin 21 is OK.

If the wire is OK check if there's a signal voltage on the wire when the door is being unlocked.

If there isn't it may be a problem in the liftgate control module. I assume that the CAN bus connection between the control module and the body control module is OK as you can lock the liftgate
