The Maxima was redesigned for the 2009 model year and made its debut at the 2008 New York International Auto Show.

2011 Maxima p0197 Wiring schematics

Does anyone know where I can get the wiring diagram for the engine oil temp sensor and the catalytic converters? I think I have wiring issues as a lot of the convolution is gone. Wire insulation is exposed. Also code p0420 and p0430. Thanks for any help.

This page has the information you're looking for, but it's in an odd format that, while usable, takes a bit to get used to.

This section here has information on how to read and interpret those diagrams.

Hopefully that will tell you what you need to know.

A wiring diagram isn't going to help you fix this.

The P0420 code means your car's Bank 1 catalytic converter isn't working efficiently enough, triggering the Check Engine Light because the rear oxygen sensor reads similarly to the front one, indicating it's not cleaning exhaust properly.

A P0430 code means your Bank 2 catalytic converter isn't working efficiently enough, triggering the check engine light because the downstream oxygen sensor detects similar readings to the upstream sensor, indicating poor exhaust cleaning. Common causes include exhaust leaks, faulty O2 sensors, or a failing catalytic converter, with symptoms like rough idling, power loss, or failing emissions tests, often requiring diagnosis for underlying issues before replacing the expensive converter.

What it means

  • Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2): The vehicle's computer sees that the catalytic converter on the side of the engine opposite the first cylinder (Bank 2) isn't converting exhaust gases effectively.

*

Common Symptoms

  • Check Engine Light illuminated.
  • Reduced engine power or rough idling.
  • Failed emissions test.
  • Potential for exhaust smoke or stalling.

*

The first suspect would be O2 sensors. Then the cat itself, but those are pretty reliable unless the car has LOTS of miles on it.

Thanks Bill! I appreciate your answer. However the first part was in the subject and where my attention took me first which is the p0197 engine oil temp sensor. The insulation was gone/disintegrated! Pretty much mush and the wires were touching. I’m pretty sure it’s a positive and negative and not supposed to be touching, but wanted a schematic to see where they’re going. I believe there is a massive wiring issue as well as the cats are bad so thanks for that info cuz I will be headed to those codes after I finish this wiring mess. I think the oil was leaking and caused this damage.
