Have you scanned the car for trouble codes? If so, what were they?
What year and engine do you have?
Just because you have a code indicating the EVAP system doesn't necessarily mean it's the charcoal canister; in fact, in 50 years of working on cars, I've only ever seen one car where the canister went bad; usually it's a solenoid or leaking hose.
