Unable to down load pics using plug in to computer.
Can the problem be fixed? By whom? Only way to down load pics to computer now is to remove memory card and download direct from that.

Have you tried using a different, known working USB 2.0 Type A to Mini USB Type B cable, just in case the cable is faulty? (examples only)
Use a strong light and a magnifying glass to visually inspect the camera's USB port enclosure to check if the 5 pins are all OK and that they're all straight and parallel and not bent or missing. Also check that there's no debris (lint etc?) lodged in the port that may be preventing a good electrical connection. If there is do not use a pin or metal probe to try and remove it, use a vacuum cleaner to get it out.
