Microphone not operating during calls

Might not be the microphone.

Without knowing the exact model number (you didn't specify), nowadays most Android phones have two microphones or even three.

One is used for normal calls whilst the other is used when using the phone in loudspeaker mode.

It would be unusual for both to fail at the same time. A problem with the voice transmission circuit on the systemboard could be a possibility I suppose. Has the phone been dropped or gotten wet at all?

Try starting the phone in safe mode and check if you can be heard using either normal or loudspeaker mode.

To enter safe mode, hold down the power button until a menu appears, then select Reboot to Safe Mode and confirm. To exit safe mode, simply restart the device.

If it works OK in safe mode then a 3rd party app¹ is the cause of the problem. The trick is to find out which one. You will need to uninstall each 3rd party app one by one and test the phone in normal mode between each uninstall. When it works OK then the last 3rd party app that you uninstalled was the culprit.

Backup the phone to the cloud or a computer before uninstalling anything, just in case so as you don't lose any wanted personal data in the apps when trying the above.

¹ A 3rd party app is one that you downloaded and installed on the phone and didn't come already pre-installed on the phone when you got it.
