Little metal pin broken off

Hi everyone.

I found out today that a small metal pin on the bottom of my iphone broke off. It doesn't seem to affect the phone at all, but can someone explain to me what it's for?

I can see that it was supposed to touch a dot on the back of the screen.

I have marked the small metal pin in yellow at the bottom of the phone.

I hope you can help me answer this question, thanks

That is a chassis grounding strap which via its spring action connects to the back of the display assemblies back panel offing both a static and EMI pathway to the main case. As long as the second tab is not damaged I think you'll be OK. Otherwise you'll need to replace the speaker unit.

does this affect charging? because after i put my iphone back together my charging has been weird. Anytime I connect the charger, it shows the message that it shows when you just connect something.

"16% charged" then dissapears as normal.

But when i come back to the phone the charging icon isn't even there and my phone is still on the same battery level I left it on

@daveu - EMI shouldn't effect charging, a static discharge could damage some sensitive components. You likely have a deeper issue that needs looking into.
