Second generation of the Toyota Yaris.

Why are my breaks not working?

Noticed that my brakes were not working properly and though it was break fluid running low/empty so I topped it up and went to bed.

In the morning realized that all that fluid came out at my rear left Tyre. What could be the problem here?

Hi @karabodavi96849

Park the car safely on a level spot and jack up the rear left side of the vehicle so that the wheel is just off the ground and remove the wheel

Check if the fluid has leaked out of the brake drum slave cylinder or the brake hose that is attached to the brake drum cylinder.

Be careful when you go to check as you will be under the vehicle and it is only on a car jack!

I'll check, then once I discover that it's one of the 2 options what's the next step?

You've either got to fix or replace the cylinder or the hose depending on where the leak is and then refill the brake master cylinder and then bleed the brakes so there's no air in the brake lines and then check for leaks again, to make sure that there are none when you have applied the brakes a few times.

There should be videos on YouTube for how to replace drum brake cylinders/hoses etc and then to adjust the brakes

Don't do this with the car raised on a car jack only. It's unsafe and you're under the car.

Use either car stands or put it on a car hoist somewhere so that you can work safely underneath the vehicle.
