Power button on keyboard doesn’t work
Hello everyone.
I have owned an ASUS ZenBook since Christmas Day 2022. The model number is UM535QE.
I have had no issues with the laptop until January 12, 2025. I closed the laptop and it went into hibernation the night before. That is when the power button on the laptop would not turn on. The power button is a keyboard button, not its own button.
The lights on the keyboard also stopped working, which are Fn Lock, Caps Lock, and Power.
After waiting an hour that day, the laptop eventually turned on with a press of the power button, and booted into Windows with no issue. The power button would only sporadically work from that point onward, and I decided to keep the laptop plugged in overnight so it would not go from sleep mode to hibernate.
However, last Sunday night (February 23, 2025), I forgot to plug in the laptop overnight, and it went from sleep mode to hibernate. The following day, I could not get the laptop out of hibernation using the power button. The charging light comes on when I plug the laptop in though.
I have narrowed it down to only an issue with the keyboard itself. I do not think it is a motherboard or battery issue, but you can correct me if I am wrong.
I bought a keyboard+top cover combo here:

I originally was going to get just the keyboard (https://www.amazon.com/Keyboard-Zenbook-...), but I figured a keyboard+top cover combo would be easier. Again, you can correct me if I am wrong on that.
I also bought this repair kit:

Hopefully, this should be able to fix my keyboard issue. Thanks to anyone who may be able to provide additional help.
Is this a good question?
Have you tried long-pressing power button >30seconds with AC unplugged and then trying to power it on?
How about disconnecting battery and trying the long-press power button? (then plugin ac and try turning it on)
If you get it going, I'd disable hibernation (Sleep - hibernate after: disabled in Power options Advanced, can be accessed by clicking Change advanced power settings, via Control Panel -> Power Options, click 'Choose when to turn off the display' or 'Change when the computer sleeps' from the options on the left, to get there)
Just a suggestion, hope this helps ;)

I have already tried the long press method you mentioned and nothing happened. It’s as if the laptop thinks I’m not even pressing the power button. All other keyboard buttons work except the power button.
I haven’t tried disconnecting the battery yet though. It might be a good idea, now that you mention it.
