What is the model number of the external hard drive as there are different models so knowing this will help to find the correct information and parts?

Usually there's a product information label somewhere on the back or underside of the case.

Depending on the port it connects to it might get power via it. Do you know the connection type, USB being the common and what is the system you are trying to connect to.

But without the exact model of your drive, it might be different.
