How to disconnect battery

MacBook will not power on. How do I disconnect battery so that I can try to boot with power adapter only? If it then boots can I assume it is a bad battery?

Can you give us a bit more history on what was happening, did you get the system wet or have a bang, or just wasn’t using it for a long time.
