Speaker replacement for iPAL

Hi!

I have an old (from about 2000) iPAL which I love very much :-) Now it seems that the speaker is not doing well anymore. By either listening from the radio or the AUX input the sound is very distorted. I tried with headphones and it's fine.

I have already opened it and the speaker is a 3 W 4 Ohm, it seems to be 2.5inch diameter. And it has a relatively small (in diameter) magnet so that it can fit in the small space with the electronic board.

I don't want to take the risk buying a speaker that will physically not fit. Does anybody knows if I can find a replacement that will fit well?

Thanks in advance!

Carlo

I have same problem. The foam surround has deteriorated casing bass frequency distortion. On Aliexpress there is a Sotamia 2.5 inch 4 Ohm 15W speaker which might fit.

What will happen if I replace the 3W speaker with a 15W speaker, if all other specs remain the same?

I searched but could only find an 8 Ohm version of that speaker. So I ordered a new 2.5" surround online along with speaker surround adhesive. The sound problems were caused by a deteriorated surround. I carefully removed the old foam surround and installed the new one. It is now perfect, like new.

I have a tivoli that needs this same repair. But there is one speaker mounting screw that is under the horizontal circuit board that I cannot get to. How did you get speaker out & to front of speaker.

I already submitted this comment, so forgive if it is a duplicate. You can access that fourth speaker screw by removing (gently wiggling the tuner board after removing the screws that attach it to the front case). Still a little hard to get to the screw but doable with proper smallish screwdriver. I’m doing a replacement to speaker surround which I bought on Amazon. Using e6000 adhesive. Seen it suggested on the net.

The speaker connects to the circuit board by a socket plug so no need to unsolder the speaker wires. Love the design.

Hi,

Found some on Ali express.

You might need to check to see if they’re suitable (4ohm 5w 2.5 inch).

There are manuals available for download at Tivoli Audio if you’d like to grab one too.

Hope this helps you to find what you’re looking for.

Hi!

thanks for the answer! However that speaker would not physically suit in the iPAL. I think that, after some searches, I would be able to find one that fits. But I was wondering if anyone already knows of a suitable model so that I don't have to search too much :-)

Regards,

Carlo

Hi, did you manage to find a replacement speaker for the ipal?

I have same problem. I called tivoli audio and they offer no solution

In terms of replacing and renewing the speaker surround piece, I got one from Amazon. There any number of generic ones for 2.5 and 3 inch speakers. Nothing specifically for tivoli. But there are a bunch of YouTube guides on replacing deteriorating speaker surrounds.
