Can the HDD be replaced?
Can the HDD be replaced with a brand new HDD and work as a new device? Would the previous HDD be necesary?

Yes, in most cases you can replace the HDD with a brand-new one and use it as a fresh device. The old drive is not required for the new HDD to function.
However, there are two scenarios:
1. If you just want a new working drive
You can install the new HDD and install the operating system or format it. It will work like a completely new storage device.
2. If you want your old data or system back
Then the previous HDD becomes important. You would need it to clone the drive or recover files.
