Why is my MacBook so hot?

My MacBook Pro is getting really hot, even when I use a fan. What can I do about this?

It very likely needs some fresh thermal paste applied to the heatsink as it is 15 years old and possibly has never been internally serviced (Dusted down and re-pasted). A guide on how to do that can be found here MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2010 Heat Sink Replacement

An old battery will also push the systems heat build up. Install coconutbattery you may need to contact Chris to get the older version. It will allow you to see the batteries health and it’s temp.
