It could be the drive belt¹ initially slipping when the motor starts, the support rollers¹ gunked up with lint or worn or perhaps the idler pulley¹ is worn
¹ The supplier linked was only because they have videos in the links that show how to replace the suspected parts, which will help to inspect them etc. If a part is faulty and needs replacing, search online for the manufacturer's part number only (shown in the link) to find suppliers that suit you best.

This dryer repair kit has all of the parts mentioned in this answer.
thanks I ordered the repair kit and it was definitely the idler pulley. Replaced belt and rollers as well.
