Why does my opal stop making ice?

After about 9 months of making great ice, my GE Opal is blowing warm air and no longer making ice. I have cleaned out the back but no change. Any help appreciated.

there are multiple reasons why this could occur. mine stopped producing ice due to a stripped gear in the gear box. this caused my auger to stop turning so no ice could be pushed up and the unit froze the water. this caused my machine to have a flashing defrosting light after a while (~30min) that will not go off unless the machine is unplugged.
