Questions about motherboard component values and orientations

If anyone can help me with a couple issues that would be great! :) I need to replace the surface mount components C7E1 and C7E3 on a friends Xbox One S, which appear to be resistors. I need to know if they have a specific orientation, what the values are, and also what the values of the components, C7E2 and C7E4, next to them are (in case I can get a second shot at this component swap if something goes wrong). Also, if someone could tell me what the max operating temperature of these little guys tends to be, that would be fantastic (while removing one, it stuck to the tip of my iron for almost 5 seconds). I apologize, the image quality is not the greatest.

Thank you very much to anyone who takes the time to read and/or lend advice.

@jayeff, I am not sure how I missed for six years that this post had been responded to, and the very next day at that. Thank you very much for taking the time to answer this for me. As it turned out, we were able to get the repair done and restore full function to the unit, despite missing this reply. I do find the info you've provided useful even now, however. It is still very much appreciated.

Hi @gednebulizer ,

Don't know the answer as to the values of the components but a "C" component designation on a circuit board means that the component is a capacitor.

If it is an electrolytic capacitor the +ve end of the component itself will be marked as should the circuit board to denote the orientation of the capacitor on the board.

If it is not an electrolytic capacitor it doesn't matter which way it is mounted.

Here's a link that shows how electrolytic capacitors, including smd type can be identified.

Although just to confuse sometimes with electrolytics they mark the -ve connection but this is more with the axial types than the smd type and it is marked as -ve whereas the others it is assumed that it is +ve as that is the convention used

Most capacitors, the better ones anyway have a temp rating of 105 deg. C so I suggest that you replace the one that got "stuck" so as to not take any chances

An "R" component designation means that it is a resistor

@gednebulizer just for completion sake:

C7E1, C7E3, C7E2 and C7E4 are all 0.1 UF 10% 16V XR5 capacitors in a 0402 package
