The microphone doesn't pick up any sound at all, and I have a sneaky suspicion my child forced a needle through the hole and destroyed it. That's what they told me they did anyway… but does anybody have any ideas on finding a part number of an equivalent I could order from an electronics supplier?

Perhaps your best option is to try and find the cheapest “faulty-good for parts” tablet and scavenge the microphone from it. You may also then have some other spares available to cover any future mishaps ;-)
