Preventing my computer from shutting down

Toshiba Flash Cards are preventing my computer from shutting down. How can I fix it?

What OS is installed in your laptop?

Do you still have any programs open that are using the flash drives when you go to close the laptop down?

Are you running any programs from the flash drive(s)?

What happens if you try to "unmount" the flash drives from the taskbar, does this work OK?
