michael, you are not very descriptive about what is going on with your game cube. The first thing you could try is to increase the power to your laser. Follow this guide. Just be moderate, you do not want to burn it out. The other thing to try would be a recalibration of the lens. For that follow this guide. After that I'd suggest to replace the optical drive. Have you tried cleaning the sensor with a terry cloth and some rubbing alcohol?

It's probably not the laser, try this, the disc motor bearings get a tiny bit tight and it doesn't rotate at sufficient speed to recognise the disc, trying adding a tiny, very tiny! bit of oil to the disc motor bearing and see if it works
