Ridgid R86008 Troubleshooting

Drill is stuck in place, unable to turn when trigger is pulled, and/or unable to hold a drill properly.

Could be out of place chuck jaws, or out of tolerance chuck parts, also reverse threading inside the chuck could be striped or damaged.

Hold the drill still and the chuck down. Next, gently tap using a small hammer to try and free the jaw. If that doesn’t work, insert a phillips head screwdriver into the chuck and remove the screw holding it to the drill. Then, secure the drill into a vice and attach a long allen wrench into the chuck. Using a rubber mallet hit the end of the allen wrench and the chuck should release and be easily removable. At this point, attach a new chuck, and return the previously removed screw. Drill battery doesn't hold a charge/charge at all.

If the drill battery is not holding a charge, try “deep charging” the battery by charging for a long period of time, such as overnight.

All Ridgid tools have a lifetime warranty for battery replacement as long as the tool is taken to an approved Ridgid battery service center. Simply go to Ridgid, click on the “Support” tab, then the “Service Centers” tab to locate the nearest service center.

Sometimes when releasing the trigger on the drill, the motor will continue to run anyways.

Open up the casing and remove any debris surrounding the trigger if there is any. This is most likely the issue.

If removing debris surrounding the trigger does not work, check to see if the trigger itself is broken. It should only take about five minutes to replace the trigger. To do so please see our repair guide.

Switch isn’t changing the direction of the drill.

To solve this issue, simply clean around the switch. Once there is no debris in the way of the switch, test the forward/reverse functions of the drill once more.

When trigger is pulled drill stops and goes or hardly works at all.

Check to see if the clutch is set properly. Adjust the clutch based on the numbers on the side of the drill front.

Remove and fully charge the battery.
