Lenovo ThinkPad P15s Gen 1 Battery Is Not Charging
The Lenovo ThinkPad P15s Gen 1’s charge indicator light doesn't illuminate when the power adapter is plugged in, or it only works when the charger is plugged in.
Heated Battery
When the battery overheats, it can affect its ability to accept more power.
- Power off the laptop.
- Let the laptop cool down for around an hour and try to charge the laptop again.
AC Adapter Is Not Receiving Power
If the AC adapter is not receiving power, the device cannot charge.
- To determine if your outlet is receiving power, try using another device in the outlet first. If the outlet is not receiving power, try another outlet.
- After finding a suitable power source, check the charge indicator light next to the charge port to determine if the device is charging. Solid white means charged, and solid amber means it is charging.
If the laptop still isn't charging, there is likely an issue with either the AC adapter or the charge port.
Damaged/Faulty AC Adapter
The AC adapter can fail, causing charging issues with your device.
- Inspect the adapter for any fraying and cuts in the wires. If you notice a kink near the end of the charger, there may be internal damage to the solder joint.
- If you are using an OEM AC adapter, you can safely try charging another USB-C device, like a smartphone, to determine if the adapter is functional.
- If you have another charger that has similar specifications, try using that charger. If the other charger is functioning, you likely need to buy a replacement.
Dirty Charge Port
Over time, lint and small debris can accumulate in the charge port, causing a poor connection.
- Power off the laptop.
- Use a non-conductive tool such as a toothpick or a dental pick to gently remove any debris. Avoid applying pressure to the central pin board to prevent snapping it.
- Once clean, try charging the device again.
Broken Charge Port
USB-C ports can be easily damaged from frequent use and off-axis pressure.
- Determine if the charge port still has the small central pin board. If this breaks off, your port needs replacement.
- Your port may also need replacement if you notice it is no longer symmetrical. However, check other causes before having the port replaced.
If you need to replace the charge port, you must replace the motherboard or solder on a new port. Here is a #motherboard replacement guide# if you need to replace your motherboard.
Battery Degradation
Over time, the battery can degrade to a level where it will not accept a charge, causing it to die when the charger is not plugged in. Should this be the case, you need to replace your battery. You may find this #battery replacement guide# helpful.
