Lenovo ThinkBook 14-IIL Touchpad is Unresponsive
The Lenovo ThinkBook 14-IIL touchpad is unresponsive or not working.
Touchpad is Disabled
While your touchpad is probably already enabled, there’s no harm in making sure. Pressing Fn and F10 together should toggle whether or not your touchpad is on or not.
Missing Driver Update
If this doesn’t help you, you could be missing a driver update for your touchpad. To check if your drivers need updating:
- Go to https://support.lenovo.com/us/en
- Under Select a Product Family, hover over PC and select Detect Product
- Select Drivers & Software
- Lastly, select Scan Now under Automatic Update to scan for any driver updates
External Mouse Conflict
Some laptops disable the touchpad when a mouse or any related external devices are plugged in. Couple things you can do just to make sure this isn't an external issue:
- Unplug any USB mouse or wireless receiver
- Turn off Bluetooth mouse if connected
Dirty or Wet Touchpad
Like most electronic devices, water damaged is always an opportunity for technical issues to happen. Some things that you can try:
- Wipe the touchpad with a dry microfiber cloth
- Make sure your fingers are both clean and dry
- If there was liquid spilled onto the laptop, power off and let it dry completely
Issue With Recent Driver Update
If the touchpad used to work before, there’s a chance it could be something with the current driver as well. Rolling back the driver might be able to fix it. To roll back the touchpad driver, follow these steps:
- Open your Device Manager (if you have a Windows key, the shortcut is Windows key + X, which should open a menu where you can use your arrow keys to get to Device Manager, and then press Enter).
- Scroll down to Human Interface Devices category and tap the right arrow key to expand it.
- Press Enter on your keypad to open the interface for the driver your touchpad is linked to (usually has Touchpad in the title).
- Go to the Driver tab by pressing Tab on your keypad until General is highlighted and tap your arrow keys until Driver is highlighted.
- Press Enter on Roll Back Driver. If the button is grayed out, there’s no previous driver to roll back to.
