HP 250 G7 Takes a Long Time to Turn on
When powering on the device, it takes an unusually long time to complete start-up.
Restart the Computer
Refreshing the system's memory and closing hidden processes can help the computer run faster.
Reduce the number of Startup Appliances
A large number of background apps on startup can take up the laptop's memory, which leads to the laptop taking a long time to turn on. To reduce the number of startup apps, right-click the taskbar and click Task Manager. Once opened, go to the Startup tab, right-click on any startup tasks that do not need to be immediately opened upon startup, and click Disable.
Free up any Storage Space
If your primary C: drive is close to full, Windows struggles to find the temporary virtual space it needs to load the operating system efficiently. Open File Explorer and click This PC. If your C: drive indicator bar is red, you need to free up space. Delete large unused files, empty the Recycle Bin, and uninstall programs you no longer use to leave at least 15% to 20% of the drive empty.
Run a Malware Scan
Certain malicious software can embed itself deep into your system's startup sequence. These hidden programs quietly siphon your computer's processing power and memory from the exact moment you hit the power button, slowing down the entire boot process. To fix this, run a "Full Scan" or an "Offline Scan" using Windows Security (Defender) or a reputable third-party tool like Malwarebytes. If your laptop is booting too slowly to even open the antivirus software normally, restart Windows in Safe Mode (which prevents non-essential and malicious apps from loading at startup) and run your antivirus scan from there to quarantine and remove the hidden threats.
Update BIOS
Older firmware can cause hardware initialization issues during startup. To see what version of BIOS is installed, you can type msinfo32 or System Information into the search bar and press Enter to open the System Information. Look for BIOS version/date to find the release date. If you need to update your BIOS to the latest version, follow these instructions: Updating the BIOS [page 80 | Manual Libs|new_window=true]
Update Drivers
Outdated or corrupted device drivers can slow down startup by causing Windows to struggle to load important hardware components, such as the graphics card or the storage controller. If one or more of the drivers are not working properly, the laptop may take longer to fully boot and become responsive. To check for driver issues, right-click the Start button and open Device Manager. Look through the list of hardware categories for any devices showing a yellow warning icon, which may indicate a missing or malfunctioning driver. You can right-click the device and select Update driver, then choose Search Automatically for Drivers. Make sure to check that the display, storage, chipset, and network drivers are up to date, since these can affect startup performance the most. If Windows does not find a newer driver, you can also visit the HP support page for the HP 250 G7 and download the latest recommended drivers. After installing any updated drivers, restart the laptop and check whether the startup time improves.
